A town of Union building soon will be reconfigured to accommodate a state police substation and the relocation of court operations.

The site on East Main Street in Endwell had been constructed to house the town court.

The court operations later were shifted to the Johnson City village justice building but the town is planning to move them back to Endwell next year.

To make space for the court offices, the state police will be relocated to the lower level of the town building.

Town supervisor Richard Materese said preparations for the changes are being finalized. He said the flood proofing work is planned for the court building and the neighboring town office building.

Materese told WNBF News the town has been working with the state police to develop a plan that will meet the agency's needs. He said a small addition will be constructed at the building to provide necessary space for state police operations.

Once the addition is completed, some of the rooms will be rearranged so the state police facility can be shifted downstairs. Once that move has been completed, work can start to relocate the town court facilities.

Materese said moving the court operations will save the town about $50,000 a year in rent payments it has been making to the village of Johnson City.
