Images published by local media showed Pantsir S1 systems and tactical fighter-bombers at the referred airport where the Russian military has been deployed since 2019.

This comes two days after landing of a group of helicopters and fighters, thus denying media reports about an alleged Russian withdrawal from northeastern Syria to strengthen the front in Ukraine.

These reinforcements, according to analysts, send a deterrent message to Ankara which made the decision to launch an operation to occupy a large border 30 kilometers deep in Syrian territory under the argument of eradicating the threat of Kurdish militias.

At the government’s request, Russia has been deploying since 2015 a contingent of forces that helped the Syrian army to liberate most of the national territory from the terrorist threat.
